Undoubtedly, more and more homeowners are thinking about home security, and for good reason. Fortunately, homeowners can take many precautions to protect their home and family from criminals. While it is not necessary to take every precaution, it is a good idea to take effective steps to secure a home. One thing that homeowners should do is make their doors burglar proof.

Here are a few options when it comes to burglar proof doors:

Solid Material

The main way to burglar proof your home’s doors is by ensuring you choose a solid material. If you get a door made from solid material, you will be able to be more certain that the door is kick-proof. Ideally, the door should be solid wood. The next best alternative is a door that possesses a solid-wood core. Fiberglass and metal are also good options. If you decide to get a metal door for your home, it should have a lock block and interior reinforcement.

Reinforced steel doors are the best option, but these doors demand additional maintenance to prevent the accumulation of rust.

No Windows

Another good idea is getting a door without windows for your home. Many homeowners like doors with windows because they allow light into the home’s entranceway. Such doors also tend to look more inviting to visitors. However, these doors can be a home security risk. If the window is located near the lock, the thief could break the window and reach inside to unlock the door. If you are having a new door installed for your home, you should choose a door without a window. However, if your home already has a door with a window, consider taking extra precautions.

Install a Deadbolt

Finally, you should install a deadbolt on your door. The strength of a door is primarily determined by the strength of the lock. If you have a reinforced steel door without a strong lock, a criminal may still be able to neutralize the door with a kick. Therefore, you should buy a quality deadbolt from a reputable brand.
