A security camera needs to be running at all times. You never know when footage from the camera will need to be reviewed and the last thing anyone wants is for the security camera to not be on when you need it. That is why it is important to ensure that there is always power running to the security camera. The great thing about wireless cameras is that it does not necessarily rely on your home or business’s power.

How does a wireless security camera get power?

Wireless security cameras are the next generation of security cameras, and they are becoming more popular than wired systems. There are two main ways wireless security cameras are powered: a wireless transmitter and batteries. A wireless transmitter can be placed in the home or business and as long asthe camera is within range of this transmitter, it will receive power from it. Another option is to connect it to a battery through an adapter. The newest models on the market may not even require an adapter because this feature is already built into the system. The battery that is most often used in these cameras is a lithium ion battery due to its long lifespan and high quality.

What are the advantages of wireless camera systems?

The main difference between wired and wireless camera systems are the fact that one requires a wired connection to the home, while the other does not. These are a few other benefits of a wireless system:

  • If the power goes out in your business or home, your security camera will remain running.

  • They do not require a data transfer cable and all video and audio is transferred to a receiver.

  • They are inexpensive and easy to set up.

  • They tend to have better clarity for audio and sharper video quality.

  • They can be set up anywhere within range of the receiver and are not limited in location to a wire.

  • They are small and easy to hide.

Installing your cameras

As previously mentioned, installing these systems can be fairly easy to do. All you have to do is decide where you want your cameras to be set up and the vantage points you need for the most security. You should also decide how many cameras you want to have around your home or business.
