Causes of Camera Communication Issues

  • Distance to the Wi-Fi signal source may exceed the maximum range limit.
  • Physical materials, such as heavy concrete or thick metal walls, may obstruct the signal.
  • Electronic interference can result from devices emitting similar signals or consuming significant bandwidth, leaving insufficient bandwidth for the camera.
  • Wi-Fi changes, including switching service providers or replacing a router, require reconnecting the camera to the new Wi-Fi network.

Troubleshooting Cameras

  • Proximity Issues: Move the Wi-Fi router or signal source closer to the camera, or move the camera closer to the Wi-Fi router. Alternatively, install a signal extender to bridge the gap.
  • Obstructing Materials: Relocate the camera to reduce interference caused by heavy walls or dense materials. For example, move the camera closer to a window or interior wall if it's outside. Using a signal extender may also help.
  • Electronic Interference: Identify and address interference from recently added devices, such as a television or other electronics. Adjust the placement of the interfering device or the camera as needed.
  • Reset and Reconnect: Perform a factory reset on the camera to resolve persistent issues. See the Camera Reset section below for instructions.

Camera Reset Instructions

  1. Press and hold the WPS/Reset button on the camera for approximately 15 seconds until the LED flashes green and red.
  2. Release the button to allow the camera to reboot to factory default.
  3. If the camera was previously installed on an Alarm.com account, delete it from the account before reinstalling.
