Severe Weather Alerts

What are severe weather alerts?

Severe weather alerts provide advance warning from the National Weather Service of impending severe weather in your area. These real-time alerts are delivered directly to your system's panel, giving you additional time to prepare for dangerous weather conditions.

What can I do to silence or stop the alarm?

Severe weather alerts can be paused temporarily or silenced using the Brinks Home Mobile App. The alerts can also be paused indefinitely using the Brinks Home App through a web browser.

Pausing severe weather alerts prevents future alerts from being sent to the panel. While silencing severe weather alerts allows the user to acknowledge and silence the loud alarm coming from the panel during an active alert.

To silence or temporarily pause Severe Weather Alerts using the Brinks Home Mobile App:

  1. Log in to the Brinks Home Mobile App
  2. When there is an active severe weather alert, the Severe Weather Alerts card displays at the top of the home dashboard.
  3. The options that display for pausing or silencing alerts depend on the panel's compatibility, which will change your options depending on whether the panel supports silencing alerts or pausing alerts. Once you have determined this, see below for additional steps.

If the panel supports silencing alerts:

• To silence an alert from the Severe Weather Alerts card:

  1. Tap Silence Alert.
  2. In the message that pops up, tap Silence to confirm and dismiss the alert at the panel.

• To silence and pause the alert from the Severe Weather Alerts information page.

  1. Tap on the right arrow next to Severe Weather Alerts to navigate to the Severe Weather Alerts information page.
  2. Tap Silence for 4 Hours.
  3. In the message that pops up, tap Confirm to silence and pause alerts for the next four hours.
  4. To enable alerts earlier than 4 hours, repeat all steps above, and Enable Alerts can be selected in place of Silence for 4 Hours.

If the panel only supports pausing alerts:

• To pause an alert from the Severe Weather Alerts card:

  1. Tap Pause Alerts for 4 Hours.
  2. In the message that pops up, tap Pause to confirm. If an active alert is sounding, it must be silenced locally at the panel.
  3. When alerts are paused, the card on the home page displays Alert Paused until [time].
  • Alert Paused until [time] can be tapped to re-enable alerts before the end of the four hours. A confirmation message pops up, and the user taps Enable to confirm they want to re-enable severe weather alerts.

• To pause an alert from the Severe Weather Alerts information page:

  1. Tap on the right arrow next to Severe Weather Alerts to navigate to the Severe Weather Alerts information page.
  2. Tap Pause Alerts for 4 Hours.
  3. In the message that pops up, tap Pause to confirm. If an active alert is sounding, it must be silenced locally at the panel.
  4. After the alerts are paused for 4 hours, the user has the ability to re-enable alerts by tapping Enable Alerts. This button replaces the location of the Pause Alerts For 4 Hours button until alerts are re-enabled or the end of the four hours. The time when the alerts are paused until also displays on the page.
