Common Camera Recording Issues

Summary: This guide provides detailed troubleshooting steps for resolving common camera recording issues, including Wi-Fi disconnection, clip filtering, and recording rule adjustments. Learn how to ensure your camera system is functioning correctly.

Wi-Fi Disconnected

If your wireless video camera disconnects from the network, which can happen after changes to your Wi-Fi password, settings, or hardware replacements, reconnect the device using AP or WPS mode.

Find instructions for using AP or WPS mode by selecting your camera type here and opening the guide article specific to that camera.

Recording Rules

If you reach your maximum video clip upload limit, recording rules automatically pause. Use the Brinks Home™ Mobile App to delete clips and resume recording.

Clip Filters

Verify the types of clips being filtered if some do not appear during searches. Clips labeled Other are automatically filtered out. Follow these steps to view these clips:

  1. Log in to the Brinks Home Mobile App.
  2. Tap Video, then Saved, then Filter.
  3. In Show, select a pre-set date range or specify a custom date range.
  4. In Object Detection, check the box for Other to enable visibility.
  5. Tap Apply.

Requesting Clips

If the camera has live view, manually trigger a clip to check functionality. If successful, reconfigure the recording rule that failed to record clips.

For Video Motion Detection Rules

Follow these steps to adjust Video Motion Detection (VMD) recording rules:

  1. Log in to the Brinks Home Mobile App or the desktop app.
  2. Click Video, then Recording Rules (in the app, select the gear icon).
  3. Click Add New Rule, then select Video Motion Detection (VMD).
  4. Enter a name for the rule and configure settings such as time frame, delays, and device triggers.
  5. Set optional "at home" settings:
    • Do not record when the system is Disarmed.
    • Do not record when the system is Armed Stay.
    • Do not record when any geo-devices are inside the geo-fence.
  6. Specify clip recipients by clicking Add in Video Clip Recipients. Choose from the address book or create a new entry.
  7. Verify settings and save the rule.

For Video Analytics Rules

Follow these steps to reconfigure or recalibrate Video Analytics rules:

  1. Log in to the Brinks Home Mobile App.
  2. Go to Video, then Recording Rules.
  3. Delete any conflicting VMD rules.
  4. Add a new analytics rule and configure settings, selecting Tripwire or Ground Zone as the type.

If the Camera Does Not Record a Clip

  1. Remove and reapply power to the video device.
  2. If the camera still does not record clips, contact your Internet Service Provider to ensure the following ports are open for outbound traffic:
    • 80 (TCP)
    • 21 (TCP)
    • 123 (UDP)
    • 443 (TCP)

Delete and Recreate the Recording Rule

  1. Log in to the Brinks Home Mobile App.
  2. Go to Video, then Recording Rules.
  3. Delete the rule by clicking the trash icon and confirming the action.
  4. Create a new recording rule and test it by walking in front of the camera.
